Today’s Project – Dolphins

More victims of the Gulf oil spill — I think this is my subconscious attempt to make them okay.

This piece is oil pencil and pastel on grey charcoal paper, about 10 x 13″. It is on eBay. As the ad explains, the scan doesn’t do justice to the myriad of colors in this piece — there are blues, purples, yellow and other hues blending to add depth and movement to the scene.

About Nancy J. Bailey

Artist, author, bad karaoke singer. Woodsy ragamuffin. Mom of a horse named Clifford who plays fetch and paints with watercolors. He visits libraries and schools with me, to promote literacy and making the world a better place. Yes, he is house trained, no, he doesn't live in my house! I have written three books about Clifford. But my newest book, THE NORTH SIDE OF DOWN, is co-written by my awesome sister Amanda, who has Down syndrome. Her unexpected one-liner wisecracks can always make me laugh. If you make me laugh, you've made my day!

Beautiful! I love the way you did the light. You should look at selling on Etsy, though. You could set your price, and not worry about bids. It might take longer to sell, but at least you wouldn't be giving it away. It's too good for that.

Thanks Erica – I actually do have an Etsy store — under “Cliffysmom” – and that is a good suggestion!

Enjoy your work, it keeps me inspired. I am finally, after 50 years, following my dream of making a living off of drawing horses. While I've had many art classes back when I was young, I think I need a refresher course on colors, I am facinated by the way you use them for shadows. Pencil is my favorite media, but I like to play in many medias. I want to try oils some day. Sounds like you and Cliffy are on the road to a great life!
