Today’s Watercolor – Stargazer Lily

I couldn’t get the colors in this to reproduce very well. This is watercolor and oil pencil on stretched canvas, about 4 x 4″. Watercolor tends to roll right off the canvas so there were some logistical problems with getting the color to adhere. It was a gift for a friend’s 40th birthday.

About Nancy J. Bailey

Artist, author, bad karaoke singer. Woodsy ragamuffin. Mom of a horse named Clifford who plays fetch and paints with watercolors. He visits libraries and schools with me, to promote literacy and making the world a better place. Yes, he is house trained, no, he doesn't live in my house! I have written three books about Clifford. But my newest book, THE NORTH SIDE OF DOWN, is co-written by my awesome sister Amanda, who has Down syndrome. Her unexpected one-liner wisecracks can always make me laugh. If you make me laugh, you've made my day!

Nancy, try this — add some baby power over a fresh coat of acrylic gesso on your new canvas. After it is all dry dust off the extra power. Now it should be easier to work with the watercolors — the canvas will absorb the paint better.

They also sell a product that you can spray on your canvas too — sorry it has been years and I don't recall the name of the product.
